The Willard School and PTG sponsor many activities during the regular school day.

Assemblies

The Willard PTG presents several high quality artistic programs that supplement and enhance our students’ education throughout the school year. Included in the roster are several all school cultural assemblies and curricula-related assemblies for some grade levels.

Back-to-School Nights

Early in the new school year the Willard staff offers Back-to-School nights for parents. The evenings start with a presentation by the principal, PTG representatives and several teachers. This is followed by in-classroom discussions of the curriculum and expectations for the year, and signups for various class-specific events and activities.
Dates: September 12th (K), 19th (Gr. 1&2) and October 3rd (Gr. 3-5).  All at 7pm.

Field Days

In the late spring Mr. Germond, the Physical Education teacher, organizes a series of Field Days. Kids complete several outdoor games and physical challenges. Volunteers are need to help run the games.

5th Grade Celebration

Although there is no official graduation from Willard School, there are several end-of-the-year celebrations given for 5th graders. The events include a ceremony, yearbook, field day, and mix-up picnic with the other elementary schools.

Food Drive

During the winter or early spring the Willard School takes action to help others in need by sponsoring a food drive for Open Table. The 5th Grade class helps advertise, collect, organize, and deliver the donations.

Get Here Green Week

In 2010 Willard started a new tradition of Get Here Green Week, which promotes greener forms of transportation to and from school. The EarthCare Club often tallies and compares information about transportation choices before and during Get Here Green Week.

Half-Way Day

Willard Students traditionally celebrate the 90th day of school – the half-way point of the school year. Many students choose to dress with a “half way” theme. Students may also contribute a half dollar; the resulting funds are donated to a local charity.

Parent-At-Lunch (PAL) Days

PAL is a chance for parents to have lunch at school with their child(ren) during their regularly scheduled lunch time. PAL days typically occur at the end of each month. Parents must RSVP and be CORI approved to attend. Unfortunately PAL will not occur for the 2011-2012 school year due to space restrictions.

Principal’s Coffee

The Willard School principal, Pat Fernandes, offers several coffees throughout the school year during which parents can lean about the latest Willard news and ask the principal questions. Sessions are offered both during the school day and in the evening.

School Photo Day

In the fall a professional photographer photographs each class and takes portraits of the kids. Parents may purchase copies of the photos.

Staff Appreciation

The PTG’s Staff appreciation committee arranges several events throughout the school year to show appreciation for the wonderful Willard staff. The events include special breakfasts, lunches, or relaxing massages. Volunteers are often needed to help with food or decorations.
